Looks like a stripped down 9844 to me.

+1 If you looked around a bit I'm sure you would find some 9844 cabs hidden away !

Malibu's................. maybe some of the earliest 844's.

9844's have black horns and round HF shelving knobs, and were introduced after they stopped painting 414's gold. You can find "844's" with all green components on rare occasion.

Malibus or Carmels is my guess -- wrong horn color for 9844s.

Thanks all for the info--they look to be in nice shape. A shame he decided to gut them--hope they find a good home in some DIY cabs.....

I think you hit the nail on the head Bowtie ! I didn't even look at the color, thinking 414's &811's and says 804a I think he meant 806A that's what it looks like from the tag on it.

804A could be accurate John. Also, there was a model 844 monitor that preceded the 9844, the few examples i've seen in the flesh or photos of had all green components including the 414's.

Thanks to David Yost for mentioning the Carmels. At the time i posted i couldn't think of the name. All i could think was "the Altec that's just like the Heathkit AS21".

I think Malibu's and/or Carmels could have been manufactured during part of the time the 804a was in production.

Same-same. For whatever reason, the 804A was renamed after a few years to become the 806A with no changes AFAIK except the model #, so considering the gold frame 414 timeline, they should be stamped 804A.
